Hello, I want to start writing on this laptop more often. I have basically worked out my own method to get information out there. I have a few of these methods, and I wanted to discuss them. I am currently at the Rochester Airport (ROC) I am about to fly out to Charlotte North Carolina, and transfer over to Wilmington, NC.
Ways to Journal
There are many different ways to get information out. I could always talk to Gemini or ChatGPT. I will admit, this is a nasty habit I have. Beyond that, I have also used Snapchat as my vice. There are so many different internet platforms. I have used them frequently. I prefer a platform that allows me to have control over my own content. My own website, allows for that. So right now, I am using Debian Linux, on a MacBook Air 11 Inch, in the airport terminal. Before writing this out, I have been scrolling through my calibre library. My computer is at 75 percent, and earlier it was at 87 percent. So, while scrolling for the past 30-45 minutes, only a bit of the battery is gone! This is amazing! So happy over this.
Well, I would like to streamline my work. I want to make sure, my content is protected and easy to access. I have decided against using Linux/Debian to write most of my journal entries. I really do enjoy the Journal app on my iPhone. I can use it on my MacBook Neo, and my iPhone 16. I also really like Notes, for jotting down general information, and it is probably the best way to share information. The woman I am currently seeing, and I have been using that as a method of communication. Speaking of, communication platforms are stressed by these social media platforms. Sure, sometimes it’s nicer than everyone and your mother knowing your number. So now I am going to jot down my current methods of journaling and writing, let me know your thoughts!
MacBook Air 11 Inch (Debian Linux) - Writing BlogPosts Via Ranger -> Vim -> Publish on Website
Physical Journal -> Write a page a day -> keeps the classic vibe -> Scan page for backup
Apple Journal -> iPhone 16 and MacBook Neo -> Great for quick and easy, streaks functionality
Apple Notes -> Less structured information (modern scrapbook???)
This means I would be using 3 main pieces of software to get my thoughts out there. I used to journal on my Graphene OS notes app, which I really liked back in the day. It can be confusing, because there is so much out there. For example, I grew up with Google Docs and what have you. I personally do not enjoy writing stuff out on a white background. I really like the cloud functions, and this method would allow everything to be protected. That’s a flaw in using .md journaling too, I just never was a fan. It’s okay to use Apple. I like Apple software, and there is nothing wrong with that. Graphene OS just isn’t for me. These people behind me are so annoying chatting up a storm, but I guess it’s normal for human’s to socialize. I really love how this will be posted online. I just don’t like digital hoarding, in terms of software. It can be really confusing!!! If I am making blogposts constantly on different devices, it can be overwhelming, and no path. This is cool, because it will be a long, perserved list of information and my thoughts. I think less is more when it comes to software. The suckless path is amazing, and approaching Apple with that same mindset is important! It’s not all about “free software” sure, free software is the most natural way, as no technological enslavement takes place. The quality of messaging. Yeah! It’s something to work with over time. To find what works best for someone.
Alright end of my thoughts. I can be a digital minimalist. I can do it!!!
Best,
Aidan Hellrigel
