Why Do People Choose To Go Vegan?

I was curious about this, because I would say there are multiple different reasons, but for the most part I notice a clear divide, the difference between ethic/moral divide and the environmental divide. In the book, the omnivore’s dilemma, the other Michael Pollock determined that being vegetarian is better for the environment because tofu and processing of it requires more fossil fuels compared to eating eggs and milk. I found this to be interesting. I would say I am pursuing a vegan diet as I would say it comes down to rights. I don’t have the right to take something from someone else that doesn’t belong to me. From a philosophical standpoint and my objective assessment of reality, that is a wrong action to take. I am against the idea of one controlling someone else. Telling someone how to live their life, or dictate how to live it. All we are able to do is influence. I can tell someone what they’re doing is wrong, and that they should change. I can only point to the door, the individual has to open and walk through.

So for me, it’s a right’s violation to eat animal products/ use animal products. It is a creature that is more developed than plant material. It’s really backwards because people would argue that animals species are being sustained in the same way that people view the interaction we have with plants. There is a difference, between plants/plant matter versus animals. First off, you can visually see animals suffering. So let’s just say that we are only hunting animals and no longer eating factory farming. That argument is different now. Sure, there are people in certain locations where they must hunt. Zero reason to be “pressed” about those people. It comes down to if the person is able to eat a plant based diet, they should, as doing otherwise is partaking in immoral action.

It comes down to the worldview. The right brained religionists, always argue for the “divine” right to eat animal flesh. Just because stories in the bible mention eating animals does not make it all of a sudden okay. The left brained hyper-logical individuals will view this differently. They logic their way to the point disregarding the point of evolution. It’s really weird. Like, those people always talk about evolution, but for some reason they are unable to view evolution through deliberate action, and only view it as something that happens to us. Sure, it’s a mix of both. My point still stands that if someone were to re-program themselves towards a plant-based diet, they are behaving in a more moral way. I would argue that we shouldn’t be eating plants either, but it’s impossible with how backwards the human body currently is. It is tough for people to gain energy from the sun directly, so we use water and plants to gain the energy of the sun. IF we develop faculties that allow us to absorb energy directly.
