I’ve finally deleted them forever… Yippie! Hooaryyyy!
Hi. My name is Aidan. Thanks for stopping by to my webpage. This is the only way I communicate via the web anymore. My YouTube account? Gone. Along with my Google account for that matter. I can’t tell you the amount of hours I have wasted on YouTube. It’s a freaking video prison. That’s the simplest way to explain it. Tons of different videos, feeding into your attention, controlling and programming your thought. Molding you into someone different. Slowly, shifting thought patterns. Don’t get me started on the ads. I have had ad blocker on my YouTube for a while now, yet it doesn’t matter! The freaking algorithm alone does most of the damage. After realizing the damaging affects of the visual medium, I am limiting myself to 4 hours of videos a month. That will simply be the result of living in this society currently. Screens are EVERYWHERE. I am bound to it in that way. I can guard myself at home, when I go out, I will expect to see that media around me. Friends sharing videos in person. Friends wanting to watch a movie or play a game. Won’t be in my apartment though! It’s a toxic medium, by it’s self. It’s a inherrently damaging medium, video. it’s not just YouTube. It’s all the other social media platforms. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, all of these ones are worse! Filled with advertisements. It’s soul-sucking trash too. I don’t want to see it! It’s not real! Social media has just become all AI slopppppp. I don’t feel connected to my community. I feel connected to algorithms. It’s tough to get out of for that matter. Like my blog posts. They are really bad. I won’t deny that this article is written by someone who hasn’t spent time developing the written word. My english is so base. It’s insane. It’s not okay either. It’s a problem. It bothers me how I know people who just want to accept where they are at. It’s like the saying “love yourself” I would say, “love the parts of yourself that won’t change” that’s more true. “Stay true to yourself” is a bit better. At least then, the true self can come forth. I don’t think that the true self would come forth via social media usage. If you use social media, you are being manipulated in one form or another. There’s no escaping it! Don’t think you can dodge the effects. You are lying to yourself, trust me, I’ve been there! True socialization? That’s meeting in person. That’s the only way humans should be connecting. Yes, that is a definitive statement. It’s not an opinion. Bonding over the internet, bonding over SMS/RCS/iMessage whatever the hell, it’s garbage. It’s fake. It’s devoid of true character. You won’t get to know anyone truly, as most of the people using these mediums don’t know their true selves. They are wearing masks. Most people are so broken, the majority of society is broken. It’s really sad to see. It’s something I won’t express on social media, because if I were to say those words in a post people wouldn’t understand. It can only be explained in the depth of a blogpost. Social media is designed for quick consumption, no thought required! People are becoming AI. This is something I experienced to!! I would ask AI all my troubles, anxieties or questions. Poof. No thought required! So it’s multi-facueted. Even this post here isn’t going to describe what I want to put forth, it’s a start though. I am actually putting myself out there. I am letting the world know how I feel about social media. It’s so much nicer than the other mediums. This is the only medium I can actually respect now. I will read, I will write. I won’t watch, I won’t perform. I won’t listen, I won’t speak. I will write, and I will read. I’ll listen to what written word says, yes, I am referring to the mediums themselves. It’s straight up WEIRD that I can bond with people through a screen. OH HELL NA. I will bond with people IN PERSON. I won’t live in your fake reality. Big rants! It’s def concerning to post some of these comments as it is a big unhinged. I just am really upset about this, and how I was affected. I am disappointed that many of my friends and family won’t make the changes I am making. I will make new friends though.
What is Social Media
Okay, okay, now that my rant is over let me discuss social media. My definition goes way larger than you would assume. I could consider, the entire internet social media. I am setting that large of a boundary, as it’s just really rough. YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, Disney Plus alllll social media. Texting, that’s social media. I’d even go as far to say phone calls are social media. Anything that is bonding you with other people. My guidelines are rough. This post isn’t perfect. I am just getting back into doing the blogposts, give me some flexibility here. I am not going to be perfect right now, I am greiving the loss of social connections I thought to be real. Realizing that the only true social bonds are the ones you have in the moment, is tough. We have been trained to think our contact list, our follower list, or our “friends” list are our actually friends. I fell deep into that lie. I can’t tell you the amount of hours I spent on snapchat. SUCH A WASTE!
The Clubs I Decided To Join
Everytime I had backed away from social media, I would still use the internet. This time around, I am really working against that. I am cool with using the internet when it comes to other peoples sites. I am really limiting that though, to the people I meet in person. If I meet you in person, I will check out your site. That’s where I am at. Obviously I will require the internet for events, rent, bills, email, yet all of that can be limited. realistically, I could sign in once a week on my browser. Then I can use RSS and KoReader RSS for the blogs I want to follow. Literally setting hard boundaries around web-surfing! It’s just as bad a social media!!! I am telling you. It’s bad. It’s really bad AI has taken over. We are only doomed as far as we partake. We are loosing our humanity. We are becoming less human!!! So, I just want to speak on this as I find it to be important. It’s really important.
So, I decided to join clubs in my area so I can actually REPLACE the anti-social media. I found a running club on mondays at 6:30. Nice way to get some exercise in, and practice face-to-face communication. Joining a walking club in my neighborhood tuesdays and thursdays. It’s solid. Volunteering!! OMG. Volunteering. is. the. moves. Places need volunteers, always, so it’s a move! I am volunteering with organizations I morally support. That helps with aligning oneself with the one’s they relate to, as well. Joining the vegan communities in my area.
Another thing, saying hi to people on the street no matter what. I don’t care if you’re in your phone! Damn, I really am turing into my grandmother. (maybe not as she is still addicted to facebook and fox news!)
Summary
Wow, dude, you actually read this wild essay? Big ups to you. THIS was a hectic blog. Needed to get it off my chest though. To summarize, I am going to being using my laptop for far less. Truly restricting web browser activities. My phone? Would only really be used twice a day? (Maybe less! I am still working out new solutions in neo-luddite tendencies! Wishhhh I could get rid of the smartphone, although i’ll sadly require it. I could always just not use it at all. Literally, just stop checking texts hmmmm. It would be nice. I’ve gotta figure something out….
