Productivity Isn’t All About Action
By Aidan Hellrigel
When I first started using habit trackers and habit tracking I thought that those were the keys to my life. I thought if I followed my habit loops like a robot day in and day out than I was on the path. The truth is, linear habit loops never truly work. They never truly work due to life. It isn’t healthy to ditch social gatherings or to break off from friends and family because of your habits. It is a good thing to socialize with others. The modern world has a culture which promotes the “Sigma Grindset” which revolves around maximizing productivity and time spent and leveraging that for a profit. The financial world is chalk full of “Grindset Gurus”.
These people are left brained inbalanced when it comes to lifestyle management. They don’t know how to rest, or what rest entails. I watched a certain individual on YouTube a few years ago who stated that he skiped his son’s birthday for work. Either that or he only spent 1 hour at the party because he had to get back to the “grind”. These types of people live dangerous lives in that they have the all or nothing mindset. Often times, they are so locked into this mindset they have no ability to relax. Life for these people is incomplete in some respects and it is hard to recognize this since they have “the lifestyle”, which has been sold to the majority of the population as the key to success. Meanwhile, most of these people aren’t truly living fulfulling lives. They are broken in the a way because they don’t understand what passivity is and the benefits of rest. When I say rest, I don’t mean sleep persay. I am talking about activities which slow the mind down and allow for a connection to nature, the divine, god, the universe, the feminine aspect of the self, the quality which respects patience.
I would say there are unholy and holy methods when it comes to connection to these qualities of the self. Doomscrolling, Movies, Media, The News, Eating are forms of unconspicious consumption. This I would consider the unholy variant of the connection the feminime aspect of the self. It is a form of rest, but in reality it really isn’t. The mind goes into Alpha Waves which is associated with relaxed wakefulness. This can be a problem because we begin to internalize news stories which we hear, and as the saying goes…
The Holy version of passivity and a healthily tapping into your right brain include yoga, meditation, classical music, going on a walks, socialization (which would probably be a great way to balance both sides of the brain since it includes input and output in the conversation, taking in information and putting it back out which plays into the trivium process.), playing music, are all great activities which lead to a more fulfilling life.
It is very tough to get into the habits of partaking in healthy habits because the world is designed to run in the involuted way. It is a sad state of a affairs and it comes down to the individual to make a change for the better. Well everyone this was my fun blogpost, I hope you all enjoyed have a great rest of your days.
