Deciding To Quit TV, Movies, Social Media, Music, Etc.

Good Morning everyone, I wanted to hop on today to talk about the reasons I am choosing to distance myself from watching videos. I have tried this in the past before, for about a month. Now I am in a much better situation to be able to attempt this work. I am choosing to do this as watching videos has been a really negative force in my life.

What am I giving up by ceasing to watching videos? Most specifically YouTube, YouTube has been a real negative force in my life. It’s the worst of them all. Ever since my “so called friend” put me on to YouTube back in 2nd Grade, I’ve been completely hooked. Especially with the way technology has gone, it makes complete sense that I would be so tied to watching YouTube (that doesn’t make it okay!)

I would say that before I was hooked on YouTube, I would watch countless hours of television. That was a real big problem in my youth. I would sit in front of the television, all. the. damn. Time. It was bad. I am not taking this lightly, it was a really bad situation. While it isn’t immoral to consume television, I would say that it is immoral to raise a child in that way. What my parents did was wrong and was neglectful. My parents should have placed me in front of the television as much as they did when I was growing up. Stuff like this, you don’t realize until you start to grow up, and process the fact that other families didn’t have the television on all day. I was so sespetible to it too.

The reason I decided to give up music was the negative influence it has had in my life. I still hear the tunes in my mind too! Even after deciding to quit. I hear the songs I used to listen to on repeat, and I must remind myself with the phrase “cancel, cancel” to stop playing these songs in my mind. Of course, living in the world today, I will be faced with people playing music around the city. This is something that is out of my hands. The most I could do is go back to my apartment to avoid music. Which I have been doing. I have been making that conscious choice not to play the music, into my own head. This decision is the best decision I could have made.

Part of me is thinking about quitting YouTube too. Like just deleting my account. Sticking to posting everything on my own website, that way I can actually delete all my Gmail accounts. Really make a thing about it you know, really distance myself. Sure, I wouldn’t be able to grow the same size of an audience. This also goes for TikTok as well. Sure, I wouldn’t be able to find community or other warriors in the fight for freedom, sure. I would rather navigate the web, through my own website. I would rather do this as that is what the web is really about. It’s not about these centralized social media accounts. I would also argue it is making a stand against those platforms. The other argument is that having my content up on the other platforms would bring visitors to funnel into my site. I understand that argument too. I won’t make any decisions now, I just am thinking about my current philosophy. If I am not choosing to watch videos, why would I have videos up on the web? It’s unfair. If I am choosing not to consume videos, than I shouldn’t have other people consuming my videos.

Anyway, that’s what I like about my site. I can post my thoughts, put them out there, and people I know in my life can just read it all here. People I meet in person, I can share my site to them, that’s much more grassroots and realistic. I would rather have people reading out what I have written down. I’m not against writing stuff out, I am against texting or communicating with people through the written word. Especially texting/social media as it can turn into bonding over text before you’d even meet in person. I would rather make friends/bond with others in person, email and text are good at scheduling things out in advance.

Alright everyone, thanks for reading :) !
